Myofascial therapy - ALIGN
What Is Fascia?
And no — it’s not a facial.
Fascia is a continuous, three-dimensional network of connective tissue running throughout the body.
It surrounds, separates and connects muscles and other structures, helping everything move and glide together.
And here's where it gets really interesting.
Between layers of fascia and muscle is a thin, fluid-rich matrix containing hyaluronic acid — the same naturally occurring substance you may have heard of in skincare. In fascia, hyaluronic acid helps create the slippery environment that allows tissue layers to glide smoothly over one another, contributing to smooth, comfortable movement.
When tissues become overloaded, irritated or restricted, changes in this fascial environment may affect that natural glide. Manual stimulation of fascia can influence the health and flow of this hyaluronic-acid-rich layer.
So what does Myofasical therapy do?
Functional myotherapy uses highly specific, deliberate and directional hands-on techniques to work with the body's soft tissues — including muscle and fascia — rather than simply applying more and more pressure.
The aim is to encourage movement between tissue layers, influence sensory input and reduce the feeling of tension and restriction. Current research suggests that fascial manipulation may influence fascial gliding, and pain-free movement.
In other words, we're not trying to bully your body into letting go.
We're giving it the right kind of stimulation to respond.
And yes — bodywork can be gentle and profoundly effective.
